A FRAUDSTER must pay nearly £1,000 in compensation for an car insurance scam.

Harrison Foster, 21, of Butlers Close, Chandler's Ford, claimed to be a car insurance agent and ripped off two people, a court heard.

Foster falsely claimed on June 5 2020 he had obtained insurance on a 14-reg vehicle for Stuart Bishop when he had not. On June 27 he made the same false claim on a V-reg vehicle for George May.

He kept their money for himself. Foster admitted both charges of fraud. The name of his business was not mentioned in the court record but the offences were committed in Andover.

Magistrates in Basingstoke imposed a community order for Foster to do 40 hours unpaid work over the next 12 months as well as paying £849 compensation to Mr Bishop and £145 to Mr May.

Foster must also pay £85 costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
