NOTABILITY, a mixed-voice choir of 16 singers formed 28 years ago will visit Romsey on Saturday October 23.

Based in North Mancheste the group will be the guests of Romsey Male Voice Choir in a concert to be held in the Romsey United Reformed Church on Saturday, October 23.

This joint concert is the result of a coincidence. Paul Trimble, a founder member of Notability, met Kevin Cleary, previously a Welsh non-singer but now Romsey MVC’s chairman, 12 years ago on a Baltic cruise.

They became firm friends and on a second cruise Paul suggested that Kevin join the onboard choir which allowed Kevin’s fine bass voice to be exposed to the world.

Like their hosts, Notability enjoy singing a wide variety of music, both sacred and secular, ancient and modern, classical and popular.

They are equally at home singing ‘a capella’ or with accompaniment. Unlike Romsey MVC, though, they do not have a conductor as they feel this leads to better communication with their audience.

They give regular performances in churches, cathedrals and other venues in the North West and have also performed further afield, including recent concerts in Norfolk, Berkshire, London and Kent. This is their first visit to the New Forest area. On Sunday, October 24 they are presenting a concert of popular favourites at the Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Totton.

Tickets for the Romsey concert are available from the Romsey Visitor Information Centre by calling 01794 512 987).
