A NEW manufacturing facility is coming to Romsey and will create new employment opportunities.

The fibre-optic cable solutions provider, Lumenisity Ltd has confirmed the new multi-million-pound, 40,000 square ft purpose-built factory will open in January 2022 at the Abbey Park Industrial Estate, and it will create a significant number of job vacancies.

Lumenisity is a Hampshire based start-up that was formed in early 2017 as a spin-out from the University of Southampton to commercialise their hollowcore fibre optic and cabling technology. This technology is set to revolutionise the way some parts of the internet are built, offering advantages to Telecom carriers, major data service providers and data centre owners around the world.

The facility will allow for increased capacity, flexibility and coordinated working, as manufacturing is currently located further afield at the University of Southampton Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC).

The investment is set to drive growth for both the business and the industry. Once the project is complete it will provide several recruitment opportunities for technicians, engineers, and graduate interns to join the Lumenisity team.

Stephen Doran, Lumenisity’s chief operating officer said: “As a start-up, we have many exciting projects happening at once and we are moving at a fast pace. The progression of the company from 6 people at the start of 2017, to over 60 at the beginning of October this year, proves how much interest we have had for our cable solutions.

“Once the manufacturing facility opens, we will have a number of technician and engineering positions available to help us meet demand going forward. We are looking for people to join us on this journey, where we will offer excellent training and development opportunities at all levels.”

Lumenisity’s CoreSmart® cable solution was introduced to the market in 2018, but recent breakthroughs have gained the interest of many global Telecoms service providers, financial companies, and Cloud service providers.

In September this year, Lumenisity attended the European Conference on Optical Communications Exhibition in Bordeaux, France, and won the Best Fibre Component Product category for their hollowcore NANF® CoreSmart cable solution during the ECOC Exhibition Industry Awards 2021.

This was their first award since bringing the product to market. Lumenisity’s VP Sales & Marketing, Tony Pearson, was presented with the award live during the ceremony. He said: “We are honoured to receive this special award at the ECOC Exhibition, a body that has for so long been a focal point for best of the best in optics. It is fantastic to see that our hollowcore technology is being identified as an innovative solution and gamechanger within the optical communications industry.”

Lumenisity are now recruiting and have multiple openings based in Romsey. For more information email recruitment@lumenisity.com.
