SIR: In my opinion home care workers are totally undervalued by this Government by their constant insufficient funding provided for councils to pay for the homecare services needed by their clients.
Most councils are are not even paying home care companies a high enough hourly rate to cover basic costs like travel time between clients. This also means companies are unable to raise wages and that also causes a major turn over of their staff.
Rishi Sunak the Chancellor needs to urgently provide a significant amount of further social care funding to councils, certainly not further “sound bites” before home care organisations completely collapse.
There is no doubt that councils would like to pay more for care but their hands are tied, because they simply do not have the money to do so.
