A ROMSEY man died following a diagnosis of a cancer usually attributed to the exposure to asbestos.
Simon Mansord Woodall underwent a biopsy in March this year and was diagnosed with epithelioid malignant mesothelioma.
In September, the 75-year-old was suffering from abdominal pain and distension which was treated with antibiotics and "managed conservatively" but he continued to decline. Mr Woodall, of Elms Drive, died on November 11 at St Wilfrid’s Hospice, in Chichester.
An inquest was opening into his death at Winchester Coroner’s Court by area coroner Jason Pegg.
A cause of death was given as malignant epithelioid mesothelioma.
Mr Pegg adjourned the hearing for a full inquest to take place on February 24, next year.
