A post box was ripped out of a wall in Romsey yesterday.

The Royal Mail post box, on Toothill Road, was ripped out of the wall and stolen.

On the Facebook group, Romsey News and Information, Olivia Wiltshire said: “One thing after another here at Toothill Road, now the Royal Mail post box has been ripped from our wall and stolen last night at some point between 5:30pm and 8pm if anyone has any cctv or information please let me know.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Royal Mail has over 115,000 postboxes across the UK and the theft of postboxes is relatively rare. However, Royal Mail takes the issue very seriously, and works closely with law enforcement agencies to prevent the unlawful removal of postboxes. We also deploy preventative measures and technologies to deter theft.
“These measures include forensic tags, permanent metal marking systems and electronic tracking. In the event that a crime is committed, these features can help our investigators to identify and trace stolen property as well as potential offenders. If customers have any concerns about their mail, they should contact our customer service team on 03457 740 740.”

Hampshire Constabulary has been contacted for more information.
