A guest house in Romsey has seen plans objected to because it overlooks neighbouring gardens.

The town council's planning committee saw problems with a first floor balcony which could impact on neighbour's privacy.

The application, submitted by the owner, is for the replacement of the rear flat roof with new roof lights, external staircase, terrace and railings, installation of PV panels, parapet wall and external doors at a property in Botley Road.

Committee chair Cllr John Parker said: “My concern is that the area with the railings and the stairs provide unacceptable overlooking of neighbouring gardens.”

Cllr Mark Cooper said: “My concern is the impact of the first floor balcony. Although it is set back, there is still a very clear view over the neighbouring gardens.

“If you're on a balcony, the impact of having your amenity disturbed is quite significant. I think we should propose an objection unless a way can be found to resolve the overlooking from the outdoor balcony area.”

Councillors agreed that this was enough to support and objection.
