A ROYAL party is being planned to pick the faces of this year's Romsey Carnival.

The Romsey Comrades Club is hosting the Royal Party Selection Night after it was cancelled last year.

The event is taking place on Wednesday, February 23 at 6pm.

The winner will attend all carnival events during the year and will be looked after by a royal escort.

There will be two age groups, 7 to 11 years and 12 to 18 years.

Dignitaries will be there as judges to choose a winner and runner-up in each group. They will each receive a money prize and their outfits.

The prize money is £50 and the outfit is supplied the organisers.

The winners of the 2019 competition were: Sarah Jane Reading - carnival queen, Scarlett Fox - junior carnival princess, Teagan Norris - senior carnival princess and Susan Young - senior carnival queen.

Sylvia Finch, from Romsey Carnival, said: “We did have a selection night 2020 but unfortunately due to Covid they were never crowned.

“After a long break due to Covid we are aiming to hold a bigger and better carnival this year with the theme of ‘Rio Comes To Romsey’.

“The successful candidates - The Royal Party - will have a fun-filled year attending various events and functions. The first event will be June 3 at The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Street Party 100’s In The Hundred.”
