A MUCH-LOVED hair salon popular with families has announced its 'sad' closure after 14 years.

His & Kids in Latimer Walk has been a fixture of Romsey town centre since it opened in July 2006.

The salon, which is popular with families for its child-friendly set up, is part of a small chain which started 17 years ago that has other salons in Chandler's Ford and Fareham.

Kath Boog, one of the directors, said they were having to close as they could not keep up with rent and rate rises.

She said they had fought to keep the salon open but a combination of factors as well as the tough economic climate for small businesses brought about by the pandemic has left them with no alternative but to shut shop.

Kath said they had tried to unsuccessfully to find an alternative shop in Romsey, but that there was still hope of returning to Romsey some day as the business was still avidly searching for a suitable premises in the town.

She said: “I’ve worked there since we opened. I am so incredibly sad to see our salon closing its doors after all these years.

"We have been such an integral part of the Romsey family and have supported so many children with emotional support over the years.

"Romsey is such a beautiful place to live and we have been proud to work alongside all of Romsey's independent retailers.

"Sadly as the economic climate has changed we have found that we can no longer survive, particularly in the prime location of Latimer Walk.

"It is with great relief that we are able to retain our fabulous team and re-locate them temporarily to our Chandler's Ford salon and avoid having to make any redundancies.

"Thank you to all of our clients continued support, we will be back soon."

The salon, which prides itself on putting nervous children at ease, has more than 2,500 customers on its books.
