Boughton Floral Club's April meeting saw Melanie Smith’s demonstration called Flowers Bring Smiles.

Melanie is a florist, a NAFAS demonstrator and has obtained a European Master Certification.

Foliage used in all the displays consisted of Fatsia Japonica, tree fern stems, climbing ivy, aspidistra and palm leaves

Audrey Watts, from the club, said: “A lime green felt handbag with added buttons made by Melanie was an unusual way to display Athena Royal pink roses, pink spider chrysanthemums finishing with pink germinis. Very little foliage was used so the colour was quite intense.

“A hand tie bunch came a little different as flower stems were threaded through an umbrella shape made by Melanie, Pip Salmon chrysanthemums and burnt orange coloured rose buds were a delight mixed with a little tree fern.

“A burst of spring was represented by tall forsythia stems set in a container and tied at the top forming an egg shape, the centre was filled with mauve stocks and pink spider chrysanthemums. The finishing touch was a colour contrast of orange and yellow germinis, most unusual and very effective.

“A horizontal dish with sticks was a feature for a green and white display of antirrhinums and foliage, the sticks gave an unusual textural appearance, this was completed with beautiful white chincherinchee stems.

“Lastly a large red can with a mixture of coloured midelino sticks formed to make an oval shape was the base for an eye - catching design. A mixture of foliage was the base for a superb deep red cymbidium orchid stem together with deep red Naomi Rose stems and red germinis. It was a delight and a super ending to a splendid evening enjoyed by all.”

The next meeting will be a workshop called Something in a Basket. It will be held on May 4 at Broughton Village Hall at 7.30pm.
