A COMMUNITY rugby club is urging people to book its bar and conference facilities for their special occasions as a way to cope with increasings operating costs.

Winchester Rugby Club, off Nuns Road, has bar, catering, and conference facilities available all-year round for bookings

The community rugby club is encouraging those looking for somewhere to host their event to get in touch.

The club is based on the edge of North Walls Park, Winchester, and has ample free parking for clients and overlooks vast open green spaces and a nature reserve.

Full-time staff are available and managed by Jim Yeoman, who also possesses renowned culinary skills as the club’s head chef.

The club serves food and beer also sourced from local suppliers and has received awards for their recycling and green policies.

Steve Barrow, chairman of the Rugby Club, said: “As a community club we are well down on private bookings. Our commercial end heavily subsidises the actual playing side."

He said the funds gained from private bookings are especially crucial now as costs have increased with “massive price hikes, pitch maintenance, costs of kit, medical supplies, and payment for our volunteer coaches and first aiders."

Following the pandemic, the club is launching special offers on facility hire.

Mr Yeoman welcomes any enquiry.

He said: "We have a great facility here and I would welcome any enquiry or invite people to come and have an informal look around at our terrific clubhouse.

“It could be a business event, award ceremony, a wedding or christening or a party for a special occasion, I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed!”
