Team members from Barratt Homes in Hampshire took part in the eighth Romsey Relay Marathon – raising £400 for Saints Foundation.

The popular event, which took place at Broadlands Park in Romsey on Sunday May 1, saw 115 teams take it in turn to run two laps of a 1.3-mile course before they passed the baton on.

Barratt Homes, which is building new homes across Hampshire, sponsored the day, with 10 employees generously taking the time to join in the event itself.

Megan Hamlyn, marketing manager, was part of the team running on the day. She said: “It was a great event to be a part of and a wonderful opportunity for us to meet with other members of the local community.

“Each year we look forward to supporting the event, and I’m so pleased we’ve been able to raise money for the Saints Foundation, our Charity of the Year.”

Saints Foundation is the charity of Southampton Football Club, which is transforming lives in and around Southampton, helping people fulfil their potential to be more involved, healthier and empowered members of the community.

The Rotary Club of Romsey (RCR) organise the relay event every year and is part of a worldwide organisation of men and women who use their time, skills and enthusiasm to give something back to the community while having fun.

Event organiser, Charlie Daniel-Hobbs, added: “The RCR is so grateful to Barratt Homes for helping to make the event a success again this year. We had a fantastic number of people taking part, which is great news as the event is not just a race, but a community-orientated day out and major fundraising opportunity for local charities.

“We look forward to finding out the total amount raised and would like to thank everybody who has donated, supporting the teams who were raising funds for charities and good causes of their choice.”

The Romsey Relay ‘ran’ for the first time in 2013, with just 32 teams. The event has now become a firm fixture in the Romsey calendar with several thousand spectators turning out to support the teams and enjoy the day.
