MUCH-NEEDED resurfacing works are set to take place on a 'dangerous' stretch of pothole-stricken road which runs through Romsey.

Hampshire County Council has announced the whole section of the A3057 from Kings Somborne to Stockbridge is to be given a revamp in line with its Operation Resilience planned maintenance programme.

Work will start on July 7 and is scheduled to run until August 13. Overnight closures are to be introduced between 8pm and 6am during this period to minimise disruption.

Councillors have long been lobbying highways chiefs to action repair works following a host of complaints from motorists.

In February, Kings Somborne resident John Green, 78, told the Advertiser he feared someone could be 'wiped out' due to the numerous cracks and dents in the road’s surface.

He said he'd flagged the issues with the stretch of the highway between King’s Somborne and the Somborne Chalk Quarry to Hampshire County Council on more than one occasion.

Hampshire County Councillor Nick Adams-King said: "I've been asked a number of times about the state of the A3057 Greatbridge/Stockbridge Road north of Romsey. Particularly the sections through Brook and between Timsbury and Romsey.

"I've been chasing for repairs to be carried out, as has my neighbouring County Councillor, Cllr David Drew.

"I'm pleased to tell you the whole stretch of the road from Kings Somborne to Greatbridge (just north of the old World of Water site) is being resurfaced.

"It'll take place overnight and the road will be closed between 8pm and 6am throughout this period. There will of course be access for those who live along the road. I'll provide more information as soon as I have it."
