CARE home staff in Romsey have raised more than £3,400 for workers with a 10,000ft charity skydive.
Six staff members from Abbotswood Court Care Home took to the skies on Thursday, May 19 in a bid to raise money for fellow workers.
The care home’s residents watched as the small plane carried their carers to a height of 10,000ft, and after a 30-second freefall, the parachutists in tandem floated above their heads.
The team were then greeted upon landing to cheers from the thrilled residents who were treated to a special day out to see their care assistants, and even the Chef, in action.
Abbotswood resident, Kenn Dunn, commented that he was “blown away by such a wonderful day out and it was lovely to see the happy faces of the care team when they landed their parachutes”.
All the raised money is going towards the Care Workers Charity, providing financial and mental wellbeing support of current and former retired social care workers.
The original idea came from Annya Sait, Home Admissions Advisor at Abbotswood Court.
“We were challenged to raise money for the Care Workers Charity, and we thought it could be something a little bit different, so we would raise as much as possible for having something that’s a little bit more highlighted,” she said.
“Seeing the team coming together to do something so challenging whilst being able to immerse our residents in the excitement of the day was wonderful. We are constantly looking for ways to enhance the lives of our residents, and we thank the team at GoSkydive for accommodating our rather large group and for making it so unforgettable.
“All the hard-working care workers might be facing difficult times, especially having been though the recent coronavirus pandemic, which has been extremely challenging. And the Care Workers Charity can support them through those times.”
Oliver Wilkie, head chef at Abbotswood Court and one of the participants, said: “As well as raising money, we further cement our relationship as a team and support each other to achieve this challenge.”
