Plans to change the use of a warehouse in Romsey have been objected to by town councillors.

The application, from Alex Brown, is to change the use of unit 26 of Romsey Industrial Estate from warehouse class B8 to wind renewable research and manufacture use class B2.

Romsey Town Council's planning committee met on May 26 to discuss the plan, and submitted an objection to Test Valley Borough Council.

Councillors raised concerns over the noise the new use would generate and the impact it would have on neighbouring residential properties.

Cllr Sally Lamb said: “I sympathise with the objectors, there isn't enough information.”

A comment from Michael Thorne, senior environmental protection officer at Test Valley Borough Council, was submitted.

It said: “This service has no objection in principal and acknowledge the applicant’s concerns regarding the potential impact resulting from noise. Whether any particular noise controls beyond the applicant’s proposals (manufacturing only to be undertaken within the existing building and with doors and windows shut) will be necessary is not entirely clear, as the levels of noise produced and the degree to which the building can contain noise are unknown.”

Chairman Cllr John Parker said: “We should object on the grounds of potential noise impact to the detriment of local residents and the proposals do not demonstrate any measure to control that or hours of working.”
