The power has been switched off to enable the emergency services to deal with the incident, which occurred at North Front shortly after 8pm on Thursday.

Two crews from St Mary's fire station have been sent to the scene.

In a statement South Western Railway said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Southampton Central and Eastleigh all lines are blocked.

"Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

 

"We have received reports that a person has been struck by a train between Southampton Central and Eastleigh.

"Our response teams are working with the emergency services to assist with the incident. In order to allow emergency services access to the railway all power to the track will need to be switched off in the affected area.

"The following alterations to train services apply:
"Trains between London Waterloo and Weymouth will run between Waterloo and Eastleigh or Brockenhurst and Weymouth.
"Trains between Salisbury and Chandlers Ford via Southampton Central will run between Salisbury and Southampton Central only.
"Trains between Portsmouth and Southampton Central are cancelled throughout.
"We have requested replacement buses to run on the following routes: 
"Southampton Central to Eastleigh in both directions 
"Brockenhurst to Eastleigh in both directions 
"These buses have not yet been confirmed, please check back for updates. 
"Due to major disruption on our network this evening, customers have been authorised to source taxis and claim the cost of this back through our customer service team. 
"Your ticket will be valid to travel on services tomorrow Friday 28 October 2022."
