ANYONE hoping for spring weather will be extremely disappointed as the BBC has forecast snow for Winchester next week.

The cold temperatures are forecast to remain, so don't put away the winter coat just yet.

Of course, as with any weather forecast, we do have to take it with a pinch of salt so the forecast written below is only accurate at the time of writing.

Next week is set to be a wet and cold start, with the BBC forecasting light rain and wind on Monday, March 6.

On Tuesday, March 7, the rain will still remain but snow could be in the air, says BBC weather.

At the time of writing, snow will fall from 7 am until 3 pm. But, before we get any ideas of a big snow day, the rain will also be falling so it's very unlikely that it will settle.

Snow is again forecast on Wednesday, March 8, after a bright and sunny day, Winchester could see snow, rain and light winds in the evening.

Unfortunately, the Met Office has no snow forecast in their online weather report for next week.

The Met Office is forecasting very cold temperatures, with it expected to fall to -5C overnight.

The full Met Office long forecast for next week reads: "This period is expected to be characterised by winds from the north bringing cold conditions to most areas. This will most likely result in wintry showers across northern and eastern areas, these turning to more organised bands of snow at times.

"Under this regime, many other areas are likely to remain dry with some sunshine, the best of this across inland areas and in the south and west of the UK. During the later part of the period confidence decreases significantly, however there is a risk of some milder and wetter weather pushing into the south from the Atlantic, meaning spells of rain will become more likely across the country.

"Temperatures overall will be below average but may gradually trend up through the period."
