A little personal history of Winchester and a subsequent question.
I used to live at the flat above Barclay's Bank in Jewry Street in the late 1950s and early 1960s, when my father was employed by the bank as a live-in caretaker.
I'm wondering whether anyone at the Hampshire Chronicle can remember or provide any information about a lovely old chap, called 'Snowy', who used to sit near the Buttercross selling the newspaper?
I was recently back in Winchester for a holiday. While there I purchased a photograph, taken in the 1950s, which showed a chap sitting next to the Buttercross who I believe to be Snowy. I have wonderful memories of Winchester.
