MANY congratulations to Lauris Prince and her mum Hanna, for their walk of the South Downs Way.

As we report on page 3, mother and daughter strode all the way from Eastbourne to Winchester Cathedral to raise funds for an awareness of the environmental threats to our rivers.

The Chronicle does not usually laud the efforts of people who walk the 110 miles, notable though it is. It is quite an achievement especially if you are only seven years of age.

Too many older people are dismissive of the young saying they are spending all their time sitting at computers in a self-absorbed world.

Some are but Lauris smashes that viewpoint. At just seven years she has a concern for the world and more important the determination to do something about it. She knows that her seemingly small steps are actually part of something much stronger.

We salute her and look forward to hearing more about her in the future.
