A large fire ripped through a mansion, sparking a big emergency response.

Fourteen crews from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service rushed to Curdridge last night.

The firefighters were assisted by two ambulances at the scene in Curdridge Lane.

It is believed crews were battling the blaze from the evening into the early hours of this morning.

Last night one person posted on Waltham Chase Neighbourhood News: "We heard the bangs. It sounded like gunshots. Looked out and the fire was huge. It's the big house left of Poplars Farm. Very sad."

In a statement this morning, the fire service said: "Crews from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are tackling a large fire in Curdridge Lane.
