Whoever thought up the Police's Operation Crush policy (Chronicle, February 8) - to destroy e scooters and off road motorbikes used in crimes - has not thought through the environmental considerations.

These vehicles will probably have been made in China - by far the world's biggest polluter -  whose unregulated industries cause huge damage to the environment.  Why then add to that by the carbon cost of crushing vehicles that still work? Far better to give them to charities, technical colleges or recipients in poorer countries who can make legitimate use of them.

A further benefit is the possible curtailment of more orders for such items from dubious producers - who abuse both human rights and the environment in their activities - as the need will have been satisfied by such donations.
