HAMPSHIRE'S foster service has been praised in an Ofsted inspection.

The inspection was carried out over a four-day period earlier this year and inspectors deemed the service's organisation as "outstanding", adding that it was consistently good across the county.

The report highlighted good working arrangements with school nurses, mental health services and other health specialists.

It also found that the service took the cultural and religious needs of young people into account, and that foster carers were well trained.

There were no formal requirements to improve, but Ofsted did make four recommendations, which included providing more information about potential carers to young people, so they can form a better informed view regarding a placement.

It also said the service should continue to seek young people's views in all issues which affect their daily lives to help develop skills, competencies and knowledge for independent adult living, and provide specialist health services for young people in care.
