POLICE have appealed for witnesses following a fire which was started in wheelie bins and then caused serious damage to a garage at a house near the centre of Romsey.
Two fire appliances from Romsey and an aerial ladder platform from Redbridge dashed to the scene just after 4.15pm on Friday and firefighters spent more than an hour bringing the blaze under control and making the scene safe. They also had to move a car which was close to the garage to prevent it from being damaged by the fire.
Hampshire Police were alerted by the Fire and Rescue Service and a spokeswomen confirmed the garage was extensively damaged.
She added: "We are dealing with it as a case of criminal damage and are appealing for anyone with information to contact Romsey police on 0845 045 45 45.
