A generous Tesco shopper has helped Henry Beaufort School in Winchester secure a £5,000 Golden Grant.

On February 26, shoppers at the Tesco Extra store on Easton Lane, Winnall, participated in a lucky dip, seeking a golden version of Tesco's blue voting token.

On finding the golden token, the winning customer chose The Henry Beaufort School as their preferred recipient. The much-needed money will fund the construction of a reflective garden and indoor and outdoor classrooms.

Alison Caplin, at The Henry Beaufort School in Harestock, said: "We are so grateful to Tesco and the customer for choosing us to receive this generous grant. It will make such a difference to so many children’s lives in and around Winchester.

"The formative years in any person’s life are so important, and we will now get to work in using this money to help local children get as good a start in life as we can give them."

Richard Perry, manager at the Tesco Extra store, said: ""I’d like to say a big congratulations to The Henry Beaufort School and, we hope the funding will help them to make a difference to many young lives within our community."
