THE Ukrainian community in Winchester is to screen a documentary film which sheds light on the city's support.

The free UK - Ukraine Together screening is open to all and takes place at United Church, in Jewry Street, at 3pm on Saturday, May 11.

The film explores and reflects on the motivations behind hosting and supporting Ukrainians through interviews with host families and organisations. It showcases the collective efforts of the Winchester community to nurture relationships with the refugees.

Elena Popova, an activist, and volunteer from Mariupol, is behind the project. She said: “When I arrived in the UK, I was fascinated by the hospitality of the British people. I always thought you were so reserved! So, I decided to interview people hosting Ukrainians and ask them a single question about their motivations. The result is this film.”

The screening will be followed by a discussion, allowing people to reflect on the themes presented in the documentary.
