A NEW music festival in Alresford hangs in the balance after organisers were told that they might not get their chosen site.
They want to use Arlebury Park, but town council bosses have raised con cerns along with Alresford Town FC.
The Wessex League club is worried that the event — which could attract 4,000 revellers — will damage its two pitches.
Ken Veitch, the man behind The Alresford Music Festival, said the park would be ideal for the show planned for Saturday, June 20.
However, it would be shelved until 2010 unless they found a venue soon, he added.
The 48-year-old father-of-two from Sun Lane, Alresford, who works in computing, said: “We wanted to give something back to the town, and one of my sons is 16, and there’s not much for him to do.
“We wanted to put on a stage for a few local bands along with a profes sional act to headline it, though we weren’t talking about Razorlight or anyone like that.”
He said the festival was meant to be family-friendly and not a commercial venture, while any profits would go to local charities.
Mr Veitch added talks were continu ing with the council, and other landowners, to find a site.
