WINCHESTER’S Chesil Rectory hosted a fund-raising evening on Sunday in aid of three city churches.

The proceeds of £1,300 are being shared by All Saints’, Highcliffe; St John the Baptist, Winnall, and St Andrew’s in Chilcomb. The Rev Paul Kennedy swapped his dog collar for a waiter’s apron and served guests a delicious three-course meal under the watchful eye of restaurant owner, Mark Dodd, who came up with the idea.

Guests tucked into a local menu created for the evening by head chef, Damian Brown.

Diners were given a fascinating insight on the Chesil Rectory’s past in a talk by local historian, Elizabeth Proudman.

“This was great fun and a wonderful community event, sharing good food and wine in a convivial atmosphere with friends and neighbours,” said the Rev Kennedy, who paid tribute to the generosity of the restaurant, which donated all the food and welcome drinks while staff came in to work on their night off.
