AN 11-year-old Romsey boy had a lucky escape when he was hit by debris which fell from a passing lorry.

Jack Massey, of Budds Lane, needed stitches to his face following last Thursday afternoon’s incident in Greatbridge Road.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he was given an X-ray and treated for cuts and bruises, including one to his neck.

Jack was struck while he was walking home from Romsey School and was briefly knocked out.

His mum, Kate Massey, said: “It was a freak accident and he’s a very lucky boy. He’s been traumatised by it, but I am delighted to say Jack is recovering well. I’d like to thank everyone who came to his aid, including Nicky, an off-duty paramedic who helped enormously.”

Police are tracing the driver of the lorry. A police spokesman said the driver may not have been aware of the accident.

Anyone who saw incident, which happened at about 4pm on Thursday, June 17, is asked to contact Romsey police on 101.
