SUPPORT the carnival or lose it.

That’s the warning from organisers or Lockerley and East Dean Carnival after only one float took part in Saturday’s annual parade.

Terry Cole, who heads the carnival-fete organising committee, said the future of the event, which has been running for three decades, is is jeopardy.

He said: “It’s a lot of hard work to organise and we need people to support it. Having just a single float in the procession was disappointing.

A lot of people that took part in the carnival in the past have now moved on. We need to encourage new blood to take part and we need more help organising the carnival and fete.

"I want to see more village organisations in the carnival. If people don’t support the carnival there won’t be one.”
