A FUNDRAISER is ready to take on the Great South Run for the eighth time to support a cause close to her heart.
Julie Stratton is ready to race on Sunday, October 21 to raise funds for Andover Riding for the Disabled Association, a charity that allows those with disabilities to ride a horse.
Despite having arthritis in one knee, the 59-year-old is eager to take on the 10-mile distance across Portsmouth.
She said: “I have a passion for horses and I used to help out with the organisation. Seeing what a horse can do for a disabled person, whether it be a child or an adult, its just magical.”
Over the years, Julie has raised nearly £6,000 for the cause, which helps towards the care of the ponies.
She added: “When you’re out training or whatever you think ‘what am i doing’, I could be at home with a cup of tea and I’m out here with my trainers on getting cold or wet.
“Its for the children and the horses and the volunteers and everyone else that puts a lot of time and effort into it. “
