YOUNGSTERS were flying the flag this week after receiving funding for their cause.
After being granted funding from the Tidworth Area Board, the 1st Tidworth Scouts received new flags from town mayor Mark Connolly in a special dedication ceremony.
With the Army Rebasing Programme, the group’s numbers had increased dramatically with the waiting list getting longer.
Therefore it was decided that two new sections would open, resulting in a new Beaver Colony (Woodland Beavers) to accommodate six to eight-year-olds, and Lion Cub pack, taking children aged eight to 10.
Corby Kemp who manages the group said: “Each section is required to have their own colours for weekly activities and important national occasions such as the St George’s Day parade and Remembrance Sunday.
“However these items are not cheap and they also require poles, bearer belts, finials and cords. We were very keen to have the new flags in place for this year’s Remembrance service at the magnificent Tidworth Memorial and we applied to Tidworth Area Board for a grant. We were very happy and thankful when our application was granted.”
To add to the excitement, Lion Cubs is also celebrating its one year birthday, with parents supplying party food.
