A PARKING enforcement notice put up in the King Arthurs Way area has caused confusion this week.

Housing association Aster Group put up at least one notice which appeared to warn of £100 charges if cars were parked incorrectly in the area.

Galahad Close residents Janet and Brian Loader initially feared the notices would apply to any car along the road not parked in a marked bay, or with an appropriate permit.

But the couple said people park “wherever they can” on the estate due to the volume of cars and lack of parking spaces so people had no choice.

The notice in Galahad Close states: “Parking is permitted for vehicles fully and clearly displaying a valid permit in front windscreen and parked fully within the confines of a marked bay and/or pre-authorised vehicles parked fully within their allocated parking space.”

It has now come to light the “wrong sign” has been placed around the estate, which Aster will be replacing with the correct version.

Aster also clarified the signs are not warning of £100 penalties for parking incorrectly anywhere on the roads but specifically in the garage forecourt areas.

An Aster spokesperson said: “Following a number of complaints from residents about cars blocking garages, we wrote to all of our customers affected in March to let them know about our plans to introduce parking enforcement in the garage forecourt area to help resolve the issue.

“Unfortunately, it appears that the parking enforcement contractor has installed the wrong sign, which we’ll be removing and replacing with the correct version shortly.

“This area is only meant for use by our customers who rent a garage in Galahad Close and it isn’t a public car park.

“Cars parked here and not owned by our customers may receive a fine of up to £100. We hope that the enforcement of this restriction will mean that residents can now park and access their garages more easily.”
