A SEVEN-year-old girl and her best friend have finished their 100-mile trot to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

In the rain on December 2, Rose Watts, from Andover, walked into the car park at the Lion at Clanville aboard her rescue pony Charlie.

Rose raised over £400 for working horse and donkey charity Brooke.

She took part in the organisation’s MyHackathon challenge, which encourages horse lovers to get out and hack 100 miles in 100 days.

Mum Helen said: “It was lovely on the final day but she [Rose] was really nervous. The weather was horrible, it was cold and wet and the mud was really deep but we made it.

“It was the culmination of a lot of hard work and focus for Rose. She has put her heart and soul into it.”

Rose was inspired to take on the Hackathon challenge when she saw some working donkeys in Spain.

The bond between Rose and Charlie has grown stronger since they have been on the journey together.

“A couple of weeks ago she fell off and it was her very first proper fall, she was crying and Charlie came straight over and started nuzzling her.”

Helen added: “The most important thing to come out of this is that it will be brilliant for Charlie’s rehabilitation, he was afraid of people that he could not be touched when we first adopted him.”

Little fundraiser Rose has already decided that she would like to carry out more activities to raise money.

“She is chuffed to bits with how much she raised. She got off the pony [on Sunday] and said ‘OK mum what are we going to do next’, but I need a little rest as while she has been on the pony I have been walking,” Helen said.
