THE RAF years of Middle Wallop airfield and its role in the Second World War will come to light at a talk to be held in Stockbridge this month.
Author, broadcaster and aviator Paul Beaver will give a talk about RAF Middle Wallop, as it was before it became the Army Air Corps, at 7pm on Wednesday, February 13.
Middle Wallop is Europe’s largest grass airfield and best known as the home of the Army Air Corps.
The historian will delve into its past and present, explaining it remains much as it was in 1940 in the Battle of Britain.
During that time the airfield hosted the celebrities of the day – the American fighter aces and British ones like Bob Dow and Ginger Lacey.
Paul said: “If you like local history, this is a talk for you – and if you want to see how Middle Wallop fits into the greater picture of the Second World War, do come along.”
The Army Flying Museum, previously known as the Museum of Army Flying, is hosting a series of outreach lectures as it is closed for a refurbishment until March.
The talk will take place at Stockbridge Town Hall.
