A GROUP of care home residents took pleasure in a pint at a nearby pub last month.

Punters from Harrier Grange care home, in Hawker Siddeley Way, enjoyed an afternoon at The Chalkhill Blue with drinks, a pub quiz and chatter as a more unusual trips out of their residence.

Kay Jerrams, care home director, said: “Taking our residents to the pub might sound like a strange idea, but it’s actually a really important one. Far too often residents who move into care say that they miss the small things of everyday life like supermarket shopping, popping round to friends’, and a quick pint at their local.

“By taking our residents for an afternoon at the pub, we are able to help put them back in touch with the things they might not so easily do these days.”

The manager added how relaxed the residents were in a “friendly” pub atmosphere and opened up about how they used to enjoy nights out at the pub with their friends and partners.

Ms Jerrams added: “We chose that particular afternoon to go as there was a quiz on and our staff and residents really enjoyed putting their knowledge to the test in true traditional pub quiz style.”
