THE BELLS at Winchester Cathedral will be rung today in solidarity with Notre-Dame.
As people arrive for Maundy Thursday liturgy at Winchester Cathedral, the bells will be rung in solidarity with the French cathedral after a fire devastated its roof on Monday.
A fire broke out at the 850-year-old building, damaging much of the roof and causing the collapse of Notre-Dame's spire.
The chapter of Winchester Diocese, which covers some of Andover, said in a statement: "The Chapter of Winchester has announced that they will be responding to the request of the Archbishops of Canterbury and York by joining with churches and cathedrals across the land in ringing bells in solidarity with the people of Paris and France in response to the devastating fire at Notre-Dame de Paris.
"They will ring between 6.30 and 6.55pm as people arrive for the Maundy Thursday liturgy at 7pm."
They also released a special prayer.
