THERE were huge cheers and a wealth of bets placed as hundreds of pounds was raised for charity.

Foresters Arms, in London Street, hosted a horse racing night on April 2 in aid of Dreams Come True Children’s charity.

During the event, volunteers from the charity attended the tavern to help run the night.

Pub regulars, guests and staff all got involved to place bets on the races.

Landlady Anne Evans, who has run the pub for over 12 years, said: “It is quite good fun, they all pick their horses and we find that people get quite engrossed with the horses.

“They all chose and then you see them screaming at the television.”

The event is held twice a year and involves a bingo for spot prizes and auctions, along with a free buffet.

In total, the event raised £570, making the amount raised in aid of Dreams Come True Children’s charity £4,911 over the years since the pub began hosting the event.
