THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for good causes at an ever-popular village fete.

On Saturday, despite the bad weather, crowds came out to enjoy Chute Fete on King George V Playing Fields.

The traditional fun brought excitement to the event, with a dog show filling the main arena, along with a Punch and Judy to entertain the crowds.

There was also a tombola, raffle, barbecue and bar, with the cake and gardening stalls proving popular with fete-goers.

Member of the organising committee Esther Gallimore said the rain did not put visitors off.

She said: “It was quite a successful fete, we were quite surprised about the amount of people. It is a well-known fete so many people will go to Chute Fete anyway.

“People have been saying ‘it was ‘brilliant considering the weather’, it was really a good show, they really enjoyed it, but as soon as we started packing up the sun came out!”

It is not yet known how much has exactly been raised, but the committee has said it is in the thousands of pounds.

Bids have been submitted by local organisations to receive a share of the money, including the church and the village hall, with all entries to be considered at a meeting early next month before donations are presented.
