A TASTE of Russia was enjoyed by students at a Tidworth school.
As part of its weekly enrichment programme Wellington Academy pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 are able able to pick from a range of classes each term, such as horse riding, first aid, beauty, dance and Russian.
And last week the school’s Russian learners took on the challenge of making homemade dishes from the country.
During the exploration of cuisine, the youngsters, with the help of teachers, chopped, boiled and peeled ingredients to create meals that most had never heard of before the week.
The year 7s made pelmeni — Russian meat dumplings — and the Year 8 and 9s made borscht — beetroot soup.
After the dishes were tried, a Russian-speaking student said “it tastes like home”.
