THE owner of the “world’s smallest, most versatile food truck” is hoping to shine the spotlight on Overton this month when thousands of visitors come to the area for CarFest.

CarFest takes place at Laverstoke Park Farm from August 23-25 and during that weekend, Andrew Mellon is planning an event of his own that will aim to encourage CarFest visitors to pop into the village whilst in the area.

Andrew will be showcasing Dolly – a Citroen 2CV that he has converted into a food truck and concept bar – at an event in the village dubbed DollyFest.

Dolly will be parked in the Square, Overton, from August 22, to August 26, to give villagers and visitors a taste of its offering.

The converted car features a bespoke kitchen, capable of producing 100 souffles per hour, a canteen and three concept bars, including a range of 37 artisan gins plus a choice of 15 garnishes. Plus, Andrew has planned 18 events and activities to take place over the five days.

DollyFest will also allow visitors to make use of Dolly’s newest concept – a pop-up eco refill station. People will be able to refill washing up liquid, laundry detergent, window cleaner and more from Dolly in a bid to help cut down on single-use plastics.

Andrew says it was a chance meeting that led to the idea for Dolly. He said: “I just happened to see one in the car park and thought, ‘that would be a fun thing to turn into a food truck’.”

Last month Andrew issued a challenge to the whole of the UK to come up with a street food vehicle even smaller than Dolly - based on a shopping trolley.

A competition is being run with a trip to Sweden to attend the European Street Food Wards. Anyone over the age of 12 can take part, but must register and complete the first part of the challenge before August 6.
