THOUSANDS will descend on Overton next weekend for this year's CarFest.

The annual festival, set up by radio DJ Chris Evans in 2012, will take over Laverstoke Park Farm from Friday, August 23 until Sunday, August 25.

The location of the event - 25,000 acres of farmland - is owned by Evan's friend Formula 1 champion Jody Scheckter.

The weekend, described as a "big village fete", offers a host of activities from displaying quirky vehicles to music performances by the likes of Sister Sledge, Human League and Tom Odell.

South African-born Sheckter, made his Formula 1 debut at the US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen in 1972 with McLaren and won the championship 40 decades ago this year.

To mark 40 years since Scheckter won the F1 championship, a paddock dedicated for the sport named Grand Prix Through the Ages will show racing cars over the decades.

Scheckter said: “At CarFest we going to have a display with all my cars from my whole career but what is maybe more exciting is a proper little race circuit, designed by a company that designs some Formula One circuits, has now been completed on the farm.

A carefully curated collection of 30 very special Grand Prix cars starting from before the war and telling the story of GP racing from 1906 to 1996.

A roster of musical legends will be performing across the three-day event from Boy George & Culture Club to Jools Holland and Rick Astley.

CarFest was created with the sole purpose of raising funds for UK children’s charities has over the past seven years successfully raised over £13.5million for BBC Children in Need.
