WILTSHIRE police are investigating an arson after a vehicle fire spread to a house in the early hours of this morning (November 7).

Officers say they were called by the fire service to a vehicle fire in Countess Road, Amesbury, shortly after 1.30am.

However when they arrived on scene, the fire had been extinguished.

PC Tom Giles said: “Although the cause of the fire is not known at this stage, it is believed to have been started between midnight and 1am at the front of a vehicle parked near to a property. The fire spread from the vehicle to the side of the house causing damage to a kitchen.

“There was a family asleep inside the house at the time and they were fortunately able to escape without injury.

“We believe the fire may have been started deliberately and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the area around these times.

“Enquiries are being conducted and we are looking into whether there is any potential CCTV footage from the area which could assist our investigation."

A Ford Focus and a Vauxhall Meriva were damaged during the incident.
