THE roof of a double decker bus has been ripped off after it drove under a bridge in Andover.

The incident happened just before 10am this morning on Charlton Road, in the direction of Charlton village.

Witnesses have reported that the bus appeared to be empty at the time of the crash and police have confirmed that "no injuires" were reported.

A statement from Hampshire Constabulary read: "We were called at 9.49am after a bus collided with a bridge.

"There were no injuries reported and the road is currently blocked. The incident is ongoing."

It is not the first time an incident like this has happened.

In 2008 two passengers were treated for shock after a Stagecoach bus, manned by a driver who wasn't from the area, attempted to pass under the same bridge.

One witness said: “It happens way too often and you'd think with modern technology there would be a way of warning the driver in advance.”

Updates as we have them.
