A TEENAGER from London has been arrested after trying to walk into a Wetherspoon pub with a knife.

The 18-year-old was tackled by door staff at the John Russell Fox after they saw something reflective from his waistband shortly after he walked in.

They removed the knife before he was arrested by police on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place.

The incident happened last night (Friday, December 13) at around 10.50pm.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We were called at 10.50pm last night (13 December) with reports that a man had entered the John Russell Fox Pub in Andover with a large knife in his back pocket.

"The man was detained by staff at the pub.

"Police attended and arrested an 18-year-old man from London on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place.

"He remains in custody at this time."

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon added: “A gentleman was permitted entry to the pub and upon walking away from the door, the door team spotted something reflective in his waistband.

"He was put to the ground and the knife removed, he was then held there until police arrived and he was subsequently arrested.”
