A NORTH Hampshire pub is in the running to scoop a national food award after being named as one of just 10 finalists nationwide.

The Jack Russell, in Faccombe, has reached the finals of the ‘Best Restaurant Serving Game’ category of the 2019 Eat Game Awards.

The Eat Game Awards celebrates British produce by recognising great culinary achievements and other contributions to the cooking and eating of game.

Pub landlord Ross Nicol said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted in the final 10 ‘Best Game Serving Restaurants’ for the Eat Game Awards.

“At the Jack Russell, we are all very passionate about game from the chefs, the servers to the owners.

"We utilise our surrounding estate to source our venison, game birds & rabbits and you will always find game options on our menus and specials board.

"Our head chef creates some amazing dishes but the little snack of ‘Faccombe Fried Pheasant’ is definitely a favourite of mine!”

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in February 2020.
