ANDOVER leaders have reacted to the horrific knife attack that took place on Sunday evening.

Officers were called at 22:52 on November 29 after a 27-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds.

A second victim, a 35-year-old man, was then located on Vespasian Road, also with multiple stab wounds.

Both men sustained serious injuries and were taken to Southampton General Hospital to be treated.

North West Hampshire MP and Minister of State for Crime and Policing Kit Malthouse labelled the attack “deeply alarming” and reassured the public the government are “working hard” to reduce violence across the UK.

In his statement he said: “This incident is obviously deeply alarming and I have been in communication with the local police Chief Inspector.

“There is an on-going investigation and, therefore, I’m unable to comment further at this time although I would like to extend my deep gratitude to the police, who continue to keep our streets safe in challenging circumstances.

“As a government we are working hard to reduce all violence across the UK and that includes towns such as Andover.”

Cllr Phil North wants to reassure concerned residents that “attacks like these are very rarely random”.

The Test Valley Council leader said: “I was sad to hear of the stabbings that took place in Roman Way last night - and I hope the two victims make a full recovery.

“Whilst I understand local residents will be concerned, I hope they’ll also be reassured that attacks like these are very rarely random.

“There’s obviously an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and I’m pleased that the police have already made an arrest.

Thank you to our emergency services for responding so quickly.”
