A RISING star chef has claimed a national award just six months after opening his latest venture.

The Purefoy Arms, in Preston Candover, has been awarded Gastro Pub of the Year at the Food Awards England 2018, less than six months after opening under new chef patron Gordon Stott.

The award is the latest in a string of high-profile accolades received by the 27-year-old including the Craft Guild of Chef’s Pub Chef of the Year 2017, also known as the ‘chef’s Oscars’.

Mr Stott, who opened The Purefoy Arms in June this year, said: “We’ve been so fortunate to receive fantastic support from the local community, some of whom have been dining with me for the past seven years.

"It’s encouraging to know that people are enjoying their experience with us, from the food to the ambience, and all the personal touches we take real pride in providing.

"Thanks to everyone who voted for us, it really means a lot.”

The fifth annual Food Awards England took place in Manchester on October 15, with the aim of recognising the success of local professionals and establishments.

Chosen by members of the public, The Purefoy Arms beat shortlisted venues in Derby and Lucker in Northumberland.

The regularly changing menu at the venue focuses on seasonal dishes from local suppliers, and includes a special six-course tasting menu catering for all dietary requirements including a vegan diet.

Behind the bar, homemade Purefoy Arms’ jam, chutney, vinegar, truffles and shortbread are also available to buy.
