THIS week we rewind back 41 years to 1977.
Locally, UFOs were spotted in Popley, a bakery workers' strike causes hour-long queues for one loaf of bread, the night time 'Knicker nicker' strikes again, and Muhammad Ali pays a visit.
On TV:
• The Plasticine character, Morph, is introduced with the launch of the children's art series Take Hart.
• A hoaxer hijacks the sound of the ITN News from the transmitter at Hannington, Hampshire, and broadcasts a message claiming to be a representative of the Intergalactic Command. Thousands of viewers ring ITV or the police for an explanation; but the identity of the intruder is never confirmed.
• The ITV bloopers programme It'll Be Alright on the Night is first aired.
