OVER the years in Basingstoke, many buildings have come and gone with various developments.

In the 1980s there were lots of office block constructions taking place. The tiny bus garage in the centre of the bus station was demolished to be replaced with a 17-storey mirrored blue building called Churchill Plaza, which was to be the new home of Mercantile Credit.

On the other side of the Churchill Way roundabout, another mirrored glass building was taking shape. This was to be the new headquarters of insurance company Sun Life Of Canada. The building opened in 1987.

This week we take a look back at the construction of various recognisable places across Basingstoke.
