THE county’s education chief has suggested moving a new primary school.

The Hounsome Fields development off the A30, adjacent to the Longacre site, has planning consent for 750 homes along with other amenities including a primary school.

However, Councillor Stephen Reid has asked Hampshire County Council and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to look into the school instead being at the Basingstoke Golf Club redevelopment site.

The club site is earmarked for 1,000 new dwellings at least along with community facilities.

Cllr Reid, Basingstoke South West division member and executive member for education and skills, said: “It makes more sense to have the children from 750 homes having to cross the A30 to go to school, rather than vice versa with the children from 1,000 homes.

“The two sites are effectively being developed in parallel so we can join them together in looking at this.”

The Gazette understands HCC has raised the query with Bloor Homes.

Bloor Homes has said it intends to submit an outline planning application for the development by the end of this month.
